MusicAtlas has opened applications for the Fall 2026 Robin Film Grant, offering one filmmaker US$1,000 towards commercial music licensing while expanding the programme to more than US$5,000 in combined awards and support for selected independent film projects.
Applications opened on 1 October 2026 and remain available until 15 November 2026.
The programme is open to independent filmmakers, student filmmakers, short-film creators and documentary and narrative projects currently in development, production or post-production.
One selected project will receive a US$1,000 music licensing award to help cover the cost of licensing commercially released music.
The Fall edition also expands the programme beyond that central cash award. MusicAtlas says more than US$5,000 in combined awards, services and filmmaker resources will be available across the grant recipient and up to 10 projects named as Official Selections.
Short Films and Documentaries Are Eligible
The Robin Film Grant explicitly accepts short films, documentary projects, student work and other independent productions that intend to use licensed music.
Projects can still be in development, production or post-production, making the opportunity useful for filmmakers who have not yet reached picture lock but already know commercially released music will play an important role in the project.
Applicants Must Build a 20-Track Music Shortlist
Applicants are required to use Robin, MusicAtlas’s music discovery platform, and save at least 20 tracks that could potentially work within the film.
Filmmakers then explain how music is expected to function in the project, including its relationship to particular scenes, tone or overall creative direction.
What the $1,000 Award Covers
The main grant is specifically intended for third-party music licensing. It is not an unrestricted production grant.
For filmmakers who want to use an existing commercial song, however, that restriction addresses an expense that can otherwise become disproportionately difficult for a small independent production.
Additional Project Support
Up to 10 Official Selections can receive partner support spanning financing and development, distribution and exhibition, audience development, international strategy, localisation, subtitling, dubbing and industry mentorship.
What Filmmakers Need to Do
- Deadline: 15 November 2026
- Main award: US$1,000 towards third-party music licensing
- Additional support: US$5,000+ in combined awards and resources
- Application requirement: Save at least 20 potential tracks in Robin
- Selections announced: 1 December 2026
For filmmakers already considering commercially released music for a short, documentary or independent narrative project, the Fall 2026 cycle provides a practical funding route tied directly to soundtrack licensing.
