Tribeca Festival has opened submissions for its 2027 short-film programme, inviting narrative, documentary, animation and experimental work under 40 minutes ahead of the festival’s June return to New York.

The 2027 Tribeca Festival will run from 3 to 12 June 2027.

Short films across narrative, documentary, animation and experimental categories can enter, provided the total runtime is under 40 minutes.

Three Submission Deadlines

  • Early deadline: 28 October 2026 — US$50
  • Official deadline: 2 December 2026 — US$70
  • Late deadline: 3 February 2027 — US$80

For filmmakers with completed shorts ready now, the October deadline offers the lowest submission fee.

Why Tribeca Matters for Short Filmmakers

Tribeca’s short-film programme is one of the festival’s established competitive sections and regularly brings together narrative, documentary, animated and formally adventurous work from around the world.

For emerging directors, selection can provide high-profile exposure in New York alongside features, episodic work and industry programming.

What Filmmakers Should Do Next

Filmmakers should confirm their category, ensure the final runtime remains under 40 minutes and prepare their screener and supporting materials well before the relevant deadline.

The final opportunity to enter is 3 February 2027, but filmmakers ready now can reduce their fee by submitting during the early window.
