Screen Australia has opened its 2026–27 Narrative Content Short Film Production fund, offering substantial production support for Australian short films across live action, animation and hybrid formats.
Live-action shorts can seek between A$50,000 and A$100,000, while animation and hybrid projects can apply for up to A$125,000.
The current round has a deadline of 18 March 2027.
Major Production Support for Short Films
The fund is designed for narrative short-form projects and provides a level of support that can finance a significant share of a professionally produced short.
Animation and hybrid projects are eligible for the highest ceiling, reflecting the additional production demands that can come with those formats.
Why the Fund Stands Out
Many short-film grants provide relatively modest development or finishing support. Screen Australia’s funding scale is substantial enough to support principal production as well as post-production and delivery.
That makes the programme particularly relevant to filmmakers developing ambitious shorts intended to demonstrate creative voice, build professional credits or move into larger narrative projects.
