Jessica Bishopp has delivered an extraordinary documentary, wherein a bunch of people who share a common history bring to light their personal stories about a particular period of time. It is centered on a district in South London, Bermondsey which went through drastic changes during the Second World War.
The people featuring in the documentary discuss how much the surroundings have changed in a span of over 40 years. They recollect memories of the streets they had once known so well, where they had play as kids and had also grown up.
The director also uses photographs to help the audience connect with the narration and form images in their mind’s eye. Each of those people are a part of a local history group who come together and enlighten the audience about how London used to be at one time and how it has transformed over the years.
