Announcing Short of the Year Awards 2023 - Short Film Festival

We at Indie Shorts Mag are thrilled to announce the upcoming Short Of The Year (SOTY) Awards for 2023. After a phenomenal 2022 run with a collection of exceptional short films that left our reviewers in awe, we are excited to bring you the next season of this prestigious award.

SOTY will be recognizing and celebrating deserving short films from across the globe. The films we reviewed between December 2022 and November 2023 will be eligible for consideration. We reviewed a total of 130 films during this period, and just like in previous years, all these films will automatically be considered for the following eligible categories, except for the Audience Choice Awards. This year, we are excited to introduce the “Best Web Series” category.

  • Best Short Film (Short of the Year)
  • Best Documentary
  • Best Web Series
  • Best Direction
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Editing
  • Best Music
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Poster

Similar to last year, the Audience Choice Awards will be opt-in only. Films wishing to compete in this category must be public, not password-protected, private, or behind a paywall. The winners of the Audience Choice Awards will be determined by the number of votes received during the voting period.

If you are the creator of one of the 130 films reviewed between December 2022 and November 2023, you have the opportunity to submit your film for the Audience Choice Awards. Please ensure you upload your film on YouTube and share the link, as our system currently does not support Vimeo or other links. You can upload the film on YouTube and keep it unlisted.

The submission for the Audience Choice Awards will close on December 10th, 2023, and the voting will commence on December 11th, 2023. The voting period will conclude on December 20th, 2023.

The nominees for the awards will be announced on December 25th, 2023, followed by the highly anticipated winner announcement on December 31st, 2023.

If you have any questions or inquiries, please visit the Short Of The Year Awards website and use the contact form at the bottom right of the page. Our team will be more than happy to assist you.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the filmmakers for making this year truly amazing, and we sincerely hope that the SOTY Awards 2023 will provide your films with the recognition and exposure they deserve.
